New Hampshire Veterans Home Nursing Department Philosophy

The Nursing Department promotes the concept of self-care and supports each resident in reaching and maintaining their full potential for independence in all aspects of living at the New Hampshire Veterans Home.

The Nursing Department believes in an holistic approach to care that addresses the physical, emotional, spiritual, environmental, social, and rehabilitative needs of each resident.

The Nursing Department respects the individuality of each resident.

The Department of Nursing Services is supportive of staff members' continuing professional development through in-service education, encouragement, and financial assistance to attend approved continuing education programs.

Nursing must work within an organizational framework that is responsive to employee needs and one which promotes staff recruitment, retention, and development.

Nursing has the responsibility to share knowledge and expertise in geriatrics and gerontology with other health professionals by acting as role models and as a resource for those seeking clinical experience in working with the elderly and infirm veteran.
