Drowning, Merrimack River – Canterbury/Boscawen town line and Update

On Saturday, August 1, 2020 at approximately 6:15 PM, NH State Police Communications received a call reporting a possible drowning on the Merrimack River near the Boscawen/Canterbury town line.

Emergency crews responded to the area and located the male victim around 7:39 PM. He was transported to Concord Hospital where he was ultimately pronounced deceased. Responding agencies included NHSP- Marine Patrol and Troop D, Boscawen Police, Boscawen Fire, and Concord Fire Department.

All aspects of the incident remain under investigation. The victim's name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. Anyone who witnessed the incident is encouraged to contact Officer Scott McLain at 603-227-2118 or by email at


8/2/2020 - The victim, a 15-year old male, was swimming with friends in the Merrimack River near conservation land in the area of Oxbow Pond Road. While in the water, he began to struggle and nearby witnesses attempted to assist him. Before they could reach him, he went under and did not resurface. Upon searching the area, the Concord Fire Department located the victim and he was transported to Concord Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The incident remains under investigation.
