Motor Vehicle Crash, Interstate 95, Portsmouth, NH

On Friday, September 6, 2019, at approximately 03:10 a.m., Troopers from the New Hampshire State Police Troop A were notified of a wrong way driver on Interstate 95 in the City of Portsmouth. It was reported that a vehicle was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of travel. Shortly after this wrong way driver was reported, a two vehicle crash occurred in the vicinity of Exit 3.

Once on scene Troopers were able to determine that this collision involved the wrong way driver and that a head on crash had occurred. Initial on-scene investigation revealed that a 2011 Jeep Compass, operated by, Christopher ROCKWELL, age 35 of Hampton, NH was traveling South in the northbound lanes when it collided with a 2014 Jeep Patriot, being driver by Calen WILLIAMS, age 29 of Kennebunkport, ME. Both ROCKWELL and WILLIAMS were transported to the Portsmouth Regional Hospital for injuries sustained.

It is believed that impairment was a contributing factor in the causation of this crash. As a result, ROCKWELL was arrested was charged with Felony Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated and Reckless Conduct. He was released on PR bail, and is scheduled to appear in the Rockingham Superior Court on September 20, 2019 for arraignment.
