Wrong-Way Driver Arrested for DWI and Reckless Conduct, Interstate 293 in Manchester

On August 14, 2019 at approximately 3:45AM, Troopers from the NH State Police Troop B Barracks in Bedford were dispatched to the report of a wrong-way driver traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of the F.E. Everett Turnpike through the town of Bedford. State Police Dispatchers fielded several emergency calls from motorists who witnessed this incident. One caller stated this vehicle even passed through the Bedford Toll Plaza in the wrong direction.

The vehicle continued traveling northbound on the wrong side of the highway and eventually entered Interstate 293 traveling into the city of Manchester. Troopers located this vehicle in the area of Exit #7 on I293 and were able to stop it. The vehicle was identified as a 2016 red Subaru Forester and it is estimated that this operator had traveled nearly ten miles on the wrong-side of the highway before being stopped.

The driver of this vehicle was identified as

Rachel Barris (Age 22)
Hollis, NH

Ms. Barris was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Reckless Conduct. She was released on personal recognizance bail and is scheduled to be arraigned in the Manchester District Court on September 9, 2019 at 8:00AM.
