Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision, Interstate 93 Southbound, Lincoln, NH

On August 7, 2019 at around 2:15p.m., the New Hampshire State Police-Troop F received the report of a serious motor vehicle collision on Interstate 93 Southbound in the town of Lincoln approximately two miles north of Exit 33. Troopers from the New Hampshire State Police-Troop F responded to the scene and found a single vehicle off the right-hand side of the roadway. On-scene investigation revealed that a 2019 Ford Fusion had been traveling southbound when the operator lost control, spun out and went off the right side of the roadway and rolled over before coming to rest on the driver's side. There were two occupants of the vehicle identified as Justin Machell AGE: 31 Lyndonville, Vermont and Jonathan Pelosi AGE: 36 Littleton, New Hampshire.

Machell sustained serious injuries as a result of the collision and was transported to the Speare Memorial Hospital in Plymouth, New Hampshire for treatment and evaluation before being transferred to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire. Pelosi sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on scene. It appears as though neither Machell nor Pelosi were wearing seat belts at the time of the collision.

Although all factors are being considered, it appears a mechanical defect, coupled with a burst of heavy rain may have contributed in part in causing the collision.

The New Hampshire State Police-Troop F was assisted on scene by members of the New Hampshire State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction, (CAR), Unit, the Lincoln Police Department, the Woodstock Police Department, LINWOOD EMS, Lincoln Fire Department, the New Hampshire Department of Transportation, the Grafton County Attorney's Office and the Office of the State Medical Examiner.
