On June 3, 2019, at approximately 8:47 a.m., Trooper First Class Christopher Prenaveau of the New Hampshire State Police – Troop G arrested Joseph Durling, age 47, of Auburn, NH as the result of a two month investigation into vehicles improperly receiving official State of New Hampshire Safety Inspections.

As a result of an investigation completed by Troopers and Automotive Equipment Inspectors, it was revealed that DURLING, who is the owner of Joe and Kim Auto, LLC in Derry, NH, directed employees to complete State of New Hampshire Safety Inspections despite knowing that they were not certified to do so.  It was determined that a number of inspections were completed by unauthorized personnel while DURLING was not present at the location.  Additionally, DURLING directed employees to utilize his username and password to access the New Hampshire On Board Diagnostics and Safety Testing (NHOST) computer network to complete unauthorized State of New Hampshire Safety Inspections.

DURLING was taken into custody at Joe and Kim Auto, LLC in Derry, NH.  He was charged with Unsworn Falsification and Computer Related Offenses.  DURLING was released on PR bail and will be arraigned in the 10th Circuit – District Division – Derry Court on July 26, 2019 at 8:00 a.m.

The New Hampshire State Police was assisted in the investigation by members of the Division of Motor Vehicles.

Troopers and Automotive Equipment Inspectors from the New Hampshire State Police continue to monitor mechanics and stations for compliance with the State of New Hampshire Motor Vehicle Safety Inspection Program, in order to ensure that vehicles traveling on New Hampshire's roadways meet safety requirements.
