Motor Vehicle Crash, Interstate 93 Southbound, Salem, NH

On May 27, 2019, at approximately 12:48 pm, Troopers from the NH State Police attempted to stop a 2015 Chrysler 200 for speeding along Interstate 93 North in the area of Exit 2. Upon the initiation of the traffic stop, the operator of the Chrysler failed to stop and increased his speed in an attempt to elude law enforcement personnel. Troopers pursued the operator until reaching the Exit 4 Off-Ramp, at which time the Chrysler got caught up in traffic. While traveling on the ramp, the Chrysler appeared to make minor contact with an older model pickup truck as it maneuvered out of the travel lane and around stopped traffic in an attempt to continue onto the main roadway. The Chrysler turned right onto Route 102 and continued in an easterly direction towards the Town of Derry. Troopers discontinued the pursuit at this time as they lost site of the vehicle.

A short time later the vehicle was found abandoned after it crashed into a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee at the intersection of Fordway Extension and Kendall Pond Road. A State Police K9 Unit was called in to begin a track of the suspect who fled on foot into the nearby neighborhood.

Prior to the arrival of the K9, and with the aid of the Derry Police Department and several witnesses, the operator was located hiding under a deck of a local residence on Third Street and taken into custody.

While the suspect was being taken into custody he spit in the faces of two State Troopers.

The operator was identified as a 16 year old male. Due to the status of being juvenile his name is being withheld.

The juvenile was taken to the Derry Police Department where he was processed and released on to his mother. The juvenile is facing the charges of Conduct After an Accident and Operating After Suspension by the Derry Police Department for the crash that occurred in their Town. The juvenile is also facing multiple charges from State Police to include: Felony Reckless Conduct, Disobeying an Officer, Resisting Arrest, Simple Assault, Criminal Mischief and Operating After Suspension. He is scheduled to be arraigned June 14th at 0830 in the Rockingham Superior Court on the State Police Charges.

The vehicle that was contacted by the fleeing Chrysler on the Exit 4 Off-Ramp left the immediate scene and could not be identified. It is described as an older model pickup with a chrome bumper.

The Derry Police Department is conducting the investigation into the crash that occurred at the intersection of Fordway Extension and Kendall Pond Road. No one was injured as a result from this crash.

This incident is currently under investigation and anyone with information pertaining to this incident is urged to contact Trooper Emmanuel Francois at (603) 223-4381 or @ emmanuel.francois@dos.nh.gov or the Derry Police Department at 432-6111.
