Tractor Trailer Rolls Over After Striking Powerlines with Raised Dump Body, Wakefield, NH

On April 1, 2019, at approximately 6:08 a.m. members of the New Hampshire State Police, Troop G were contacted to assist the Wakefield Police Department with an overturned tractor trailer on Route 16 in the town of Wakefield, NH.

The investigation revealed that a 2016 Peterbilt towing a 2019 MAC trailer, had been stored near Napa Auto Parts over the weekend. Prior to leaving that location, William Badolato, age 57, of Ossipee, NH, raised the dump body of the trailer to drain water that had accumulated from rain storms over the weekend, before going inside a garage. When BADOLATO returned to the vehicle, it was dark outside and he failed to notice that the dump body was still raised. As BADOLATO attempted to pull onto Route 16, the dump body of the trailer struck the powerlines, which caused the vehicle to roll over onto its passenger side and tore down the powerlines. BADOLATO was transported to the Frisbie Memorial Hospital for minor injuries. Route 16 was shut down for approximately 3 hours as a result of the crash.

BADOLATO was issued summons for Negligent Driving and Exceeding Maximum Height by the New Hampshire State Police. The crash is under investigation by the Wakefield Police Department.

The New Hampshire State Police – Troop G and the Wakefield Police Department were assisted by the Wakefield Fire Department, and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation. The tractor trailer was removed from the scene by Crowell's Towing. Eversource and JCR responded to repair the downed lines.
