Drug Investigation, Interstate 95, Portsmouth, NH

On March 18, 2019 at approximately 1950hours, Trooper Geoffrey Miller, NH State Police Troop A, conducted a motor vehicle stop along Interstate 95 in Greenland. Although the driver initially provided false information about his identity, Trooper Miller was able to ultimately identify him as 32 year-old Richard Stanton of Hope, Maine.

Stanton was determined to be driving on a suspended license and wanted for assorted drug and forgery charges out of the State of Maine. While roadside with Stanton, Trooper Miller also made observations that led him to believe Stanton to be transporting guns and/or drugs. His vehicle was seized and later searched pursuant to a search warrant.

As a result of the search, Trooper Miller recovered approximately 100 grams of suspected Heroin/Fentanyl as well as a pistol-style, tactical rifle. Various drug packaging materials were located, as well, along with used drug paraphernalia.

Due to Stanton holding previous convictions for felony-level offenses, he is prohibited from possessing firearms. As a result, Stanton will be facing charges of disobeying a police officer, operating after suspension, possession of narcotics with intent to distribute, felon in possession of a firearm. He was also held in jail as a fugitive from justice due to the out-of-state warrants.

These circumstances remain under investigation by TR. Miller and charges will be forthcoming. Anyone with further information is asked to contact TR. Miller, via telephone, at 603-679-3333.
