Theft of Town Funds: Westmoreland, NH

In November of 2018, Westmoreland town officials contacted the New Hampshire State Police regarding suspicious irregularities that had been found during a financial audit of the town. Detectives from Troop C began an inquiry into the matter and the initial investigation has led them to believe that town revenue, including but not exclusively property tax revenue, was being diverted by a former town employee. Based on the information at hand, it appears this activity may have been on-going for an extended period of time.

At this point, the investigation is ongoing and State Police personnel are working to identify residents who may have had money and/or property that was used in furtherance of these activities. Authorities are asking current and former Westmoreland residents to report any unusual or suspicious activity pertaining to their tax bills or past financial transactions with the town (vehicle registrations etc.) Residents who own or have owned property in the town are also encouraged to check the records of their respective deeds for the presence of any suspicious liens placed on their properties.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to please contact Trooper First Class Aaron Gillis at NH State Police, Troop C in Keene, 603-223-8494 or via e-mail at
