Road Closure, Route 16, Rochester

On Monday, February 25th at approximately 1530 hours, the New Hampshire State Police was notified of power lines that had fallen across Route 16. The lines rested across all four travel lanes (northbound and southbound), just south of exit 11 in Rochester. Troopers were also notified of a single box truck that was caught in the power lines, and one other accident that had occurred due to the road obstruction. Several agencies worked in concert to safely resolve the hazardous situation. No injuries were reported from the accident and driver of the box truck was found to be unharmed once his vehicle was liberated.

For approximately 45 minutes, a portion of Route 16 was shut-down. Many agencies diverted southbound traffic from exit 12 and northbound traffic from exit nine as that entire stretch of Route 16 remained closed. Weather was determined to be the sole contributing factor for the fallen power lines as high winds blew across New Hampshire throughout most of the day.

The New Hampshire State Police Troop A would like to thank and acknowledge assistance from members of the NH State Police Troop G, the Rochester Police and Fire Departments, Dover Police Department, Eversource, and the NH Department of Transportation.
