Targeted Commercial Motor Vehicle Crash Reduction Enforcement

On February 15, 2019 members of New Hampshire State Police – Troop G conducted motor vehicle enforcement in the towns of Belmont, Concord, Conway, Derry, Durham, Exeter, Hillsboro, Hooksett, Keene, Kingston, Lancaster, Lee, Londonderry, Manchester, Meredith, Nashua, New Hampton, Portsmouth, Salem, Sanbornton, Tamworth, and Windham, New Hampshire. In order to reduce traffic collisions involving commercial motor vehicles, Troopers from Troop G specifically focused their enforcement efforts on the unsafe operation of commercial motor vehicles as well as passenger vehicles driving erratically around them.

Members of Troop G are highly skilled Troopers who have received specialized training to conduct roadside inspections of commercial motor vehicles. During the daylong event, Troopers inspected 87 commercial motor vehicles and discovered 139 violations. Of those violations, 15 were so severe that they created a condition where the vehicle or its driver was placed out of service. Furthermore, Troopers stopped an additional 109 passenger vehicles issuing 13 summons and 75 warnings.

In Sanbornton, Troopers from Troop G assisted Troopers from Troop D with a tractor trailer that crashed along Interstate 93 South Bound near mile marker 65.6. A 2016 International tractor trailer was being operated by Michael Cunningham, age 61, of Walterboro, SC, when he lost control of the vehicle on snowy roads. The tractor trailer jack knifed and slid off the right side of the road. Troopers at the scene of the crash were assisted by the Sanbornton Fire & Rescue Department and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation. The vehicle was removed from the scene by Rusty's Towing.

The New Hampshire State Police are committed to ensuring safe travel throughout the State and will continue our efforts to reduce collisions during the winter season.
