Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision/Road Closure, Route 2 Randolph

On 5 February at approximately 6:04 am, the NH State Police Troop F dispatch center received the report of a serious motor vehicle collision located on Route 2 in Randolph in the area of Gorham Hill.

The initial investigation has revealed that, a 2016 Dodge 1500 pickup operated by John Beaudry of Milan and a 2010 Ford F350 operated by Kenneth Lowry of Dummer, had been traveling west on Route 2 when the encountered slippery road conditions due to ice. Those vehicles pulled over into the westbound breakdown lane to wait for the road conditions to improve.

Upon coming to a stop the occupants exited the truck. A short time later, while they were out of the vehicle, Daniel Donna had been driving a 2008 Kenworth tractor trailer eastbound on Route 2 approaching the location of the stopped vehicles. Donna lost control of his vehicle on the icy roadway and drove off to the left and struck Beaudry's pickup truck head-on, pushing it backward into the F350. As they observed the out of control tractor trailing approaching them, it is believed that the passenger, identified as 20 year old Leo Croteau of Berlin, NH, exited the vehicle in an attempt to escape the path of the truck. He was unsuccessful, and he was struck and killed by the tractor trailer.

Gorham Fire and EMS treated and transported Beaudry to Androscoggin Valley Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The Randolph Fire Department and NH DOT assisted at the scene. Route 2 was shut down for several hours and traffic was able to be diverted around the scene.

The NH State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit, Troop F and Troop G are investigating the crash. Anyone with information about the collision please contact Trooper Brandon Girardi 223-8566 or Troop F Dispatch at 846-3333.
