Vehicle Side Swipes State Police Cruiser, Flees Scene, Arrested for Aggravated DWI, Spaulding Turnpike North, Newington

On February 5, 2019 at approximately 12:47AM Troopers Nathan Sleight and Lauren Hervieux of the NH State Police Troop A Barracks conducted a motor vehicle stop that led to a Driving While Intoxicated arrest on the Spaulding Turnpike Northbound at Exit #4 in the town of Newington. While still on scene with the tow truck that was requested to remove this vehicle, Trooper Sleight's cruiser and a Lafayette Towing flatbed tow truck were both side-swiped by a passing motorist who fled the scene. Trooper Sleight and the individual he had in custody, were both inside his cruiser at the time of this crash. Trooper Hervieux and several passengers were standing between Trooper Sleight's cruiser and the tow truck. Additionally, the tow truck operator who was identified as Aaron M. Wessling (Age 18), Epping, NH, was standing just outside the open driver's side door of his tow truck and narrowly avoided being struck by jumping into the tow truck's cab. No one on scene sustained injuries during this crash. It should be noted that at the time of this incident, Troopers Sleight and Hervieux both had their cruiser's blue emergency lights flashing and Mr. Wessling had his tow truck's amber warning lights flashing as well.

An initial description of the suspect vehicle was obtained by the Troopers on scene and broadcasted to all local police agencies. A short time later, Dover Police Department personnel located a vehicle matching the description in a driveway on Boston Harbor Road in Dover. That vehicle was identified as a 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser, Color: Silver. A subsequent investigation confirmed that this vehicle was the one involved in this hit and run crash and was operated by Robyn Dubois (Age 25), Dover, NH.

The contributing factors leading to this crash were determined to be Dubois' impairment and her violation of the move-over law. She was subsequently arrested and charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, Conduct After an Accident, and Motorist Duties When Approaching Highway Emergencies (Move-Over Law). Through the subsequent booking process Dubois submitted to a breath test which yielded a breath alcohol concentration of .16, an amount twice the legal limit. Dubois will be arraigned on the Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated charge in the 7th Circuit Dover District Court on March 12, 2019 at 12:30PM. She will be arraigned on the Conduct after an Accident and Move-Over Law charges in the 10th Circuit Portsmouth District Court on March 25, 2019 at 8:00AM.

With the assistance of the Newington Fire Department, the right lane of the Spaulding Turnpike North in the area of this crash was closed for approximately 1½ hours while the scene was cleared up.

Anyone who witnessed this collision or who has additional information pertaining to this incident is urged to contact Sergeant Jacob Wood at jacob.wood@dos.nh.gov.
