Motor Vehicle Crash, Everett Turnpike North, Merrimack

On February 3, 2019 at approximately 6:55 PM Troopers from the New Hampshire State Police Troop B Barracks in Bedford responded to the report of a motor vehicle crash with injury on the F.E. Everett Turnpike North between Exits #10 and #11 in the town of Merrimack along with Merrimack Police, Fire, and Medical Personnel. Upon arrival they found that: Michael G. Koumantzelis (Age 30). Dracut, MA. had been operating a 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck when he drifted out of his lane and exited the right side of the roadway. At which point Koumantzelis drove down a slight embankment and collided head-on into a tree.

As a result of this collision, Koumantzelis was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital in Nashua with serious but non-life threatening injuries. The pickup truck that Koumantzelis was driving sustained heavy damage. A subsequent investigation determined that the contributing factor to this crash was Koumantzelis' impairment and he was arrested and charged with Driving While Impaired/Intoxicated – Subsequent Offense and Operating after Suspension for DWI. Koumantzelis will be arraigned on these charges in the 9th Circuit Merrimack Court on February 12, 2019 at 8:00AM. The two right lanes of the F.E. Everett Turnpike North in this area were closed for approximately 1½ hours while the scene was cleared up.

Anyone who witnessed this collision or who has additional information pertaining to this incident is urged to contact Sergeant Jacob Wood at Jacob.Wood@dos.nh.gov.
