Motor Vehicle Crash, Route 11, Wilmot
On January 29, 2019 at approximately 08:27 a.m., Troopers from Troop D, and Wilmot and New London Fire and Rescue, responded to Route 11 by Kearsarge Valley Road, in the Town of Wilmot, NH for the report of a three vehicle accident with serious injuries.
Troopers located a 2003 Toyota Highlander registered out of New Hampshire, which was damaged parked in the breakdown lane. Also a 2007 Jeep Commander registered of New Hampshire as well as a 2003 Toyota Tacoma registered out of New Hampshire that were in the roadway on Route 11 perpendicular to the road blocking traffic.
The operator of the Highlander was identified to be one: Trevor Redman, age 23 of Bristol. The operator of the Commander was identified to be one: Cynthia Bickford, age 52 of Loudon. The operator of the Tacoma was identified to be one: David Mallard, age 48 of Sandwich.
The investigation revealed Redman was traveling East on Route 11 in Wilmot, when the he allegedly reached for a beverage located towards the passenger side of the vehicle, causing him to become distracted from operating the vehicle. Redman then swerved left over the solid double yellow line and struck Bickford coming westbound on Route 11. The collision caused Bickford to rotate across the yellow line into the eastbound lane, striking Mallard. Redman sustained no injuries. Bickford sustained lacerations to the head, reported pain in her back, and suspected minor injuries to her lower extremities. She was taken by New London EMS to the New London Hospital. Mallard was severely injured in the crash. New London Fire was forced to cut off the top portion of the pickup in order to remove the operator from the vehicle. Mallard suffered multiple lacerations and fractures to the lower and upper extremities and was taken via DHART to DHMC.
Redman, was found to be at fault for the crash, and was charged with Negligent Driving and Yellow/Solid Line Violation.
