On Saturday, December 1, 2018, at approximately 11:48 a.m., Troopers from the NH State Police-Troop A barracks responded to the Spaulding Turnpike southbound in the City of Dover for a report of a vehicle fire. Upon arrival, Troopers observed a 2017 Subaru WRX that became fully engulfed in flames. Preliminary investigation indicates that the male operator purposely set his vehicle on fire. This individual was identified as David Virgue, age 30, from Tilton, NH. Virgue was not injured in this incident.

Shortly after igniting his vehicle, Virgue fled the scene. He was located a short time later in Hilton Park, on the northbound side of the Spaulding Turnpike. He was taken into custody without incident.

Virgue is being charged with Arson and Reckless Conduct, both at the felony level. He is being held at the Strafford County Jail and is scheduled to be arraigned at the Strafford County Superior Court on Monday, December 3, 2018 at 10:00 a.m.

This incident resulted in a temporary closure of the southbound side of the Spaulding Turnpike as firefighters worked to extinguish the fire. As a result, this created minor traffic delays in the area of this incident.

The NH State Police were assisted at the scene by the Dover Police and Fire Departments, the NH Fire Marshall's Office, and the Newington Police Department.
