Commercial Motor Vehicle Crash in Sutton

On November 20, 2018 at approximately 10:16 a.m., Troopers from the New Hampshire State Police Troop G Barracks, along with the Sutton Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle crash along Interstate 89 South Bound, near mile marker 28.8, in the town of Sutton.

Preliminary investigation of the collision revealed that a loaded 2013 Volvo tractor trailer weighing approximately 55,000 lbs., operated by Akmal Ilhom, age 41, of Brooklyn, NY had changed lanes to overtake a slower vehicle that was in the right travel lane. Ilhom lost control of the truck and struck the left side guardrail causing the tractor trailer to jackknife. The vehicle slid across the roadway coming to rest near the woods on the right side of the highway. At the time of the collision, there was a coating of slush and snow on the roadway due to a snowstorm in the area. Ilhom was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash and was not injured.

An inspection of the tractor trailer was conducted by members of New Hampshire State Police Troop G. Members of Troop G are highly skilled Troopers who have received specialized training to conduct roadside inspections of commercial motor vehicles. It appears that given the roadway conditions, speed was a contributing factor in the crash. The New Hampshire State Police would like to remind motorists to please use caution and reduce your speed during inclement weather in order to maintain control of your vehicle.

As a result of the crash the roadway was reduced to one lane for approximately 5 hours. New Hampshire State Police – Troop G was assisted on the scene by members of the New Hampshire State Police Mobile Enforcement Team, the Sutton Police Department, Sutton Fire Department, and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation. The vehicle was removed from the scene by John's Towing.

The collision remains under investigation by TFC Abbott Presby. Anyone with information pertaining to this crash is asked to contact TFC Presby, New Hampshire State Police Troop G, at abbott.presby@dos.nh.gov or 603-223-8778.
