Possible Drowning, Androscoggin River, Berlin

On Saturday, October 13, 2018 at approximately 7:00 A.M., New Hampshire State Police-Marine Patrol received a call that a male was face down in the water on the Androscoggin River in Berlin. He was ultimately pronounced deceased and was identified as 62-year old John Wells of Leesburg, Florida.

Officers learned that Mr. Wells was camping along the river with friends last night. One of the campers woke up this morning and found him next to the campsite in approximately sixteen to twenty-four inches of water. The incident is still under investigation and alcohol impairment may be a contributing factor.

Responding agencies included the Berlin Police Department and Berlin Fire and Rescue.
