On Tuesday, September 4, 2018, at approximately 5:24 a.m., Troopers from the NH State Police-Troop A barracks responded to the area of Interstate-95 northbound in the Town of Greenland for a report of a tractor-trailer fire. Upon arrival, Troopers observed a 2012 Peterbilt tractor-trailer combination unit with the trailer fully engulfed in flames. Preliminary investigation revealed that the trailer was loaded with debris and household garbage. For reasons that are still under investigation, the contents of the trailer caught on fire.

The right two lanes of Interstate 95 were closed immediately. They remained closed for approximately 7 hours as crews worked to extinguish the fire and remove the debris. As a result, this created significant traffic delays in the area of this incident.

The operator of the tractor-trailer was identified as Rafael Pepin, age 50, from Methuen, MA. Pepin did not sustain any injuries as a result of this incident. The owner of the tractor-trailer was identified as Commonwealth Waste Transportation, LLC, of North Andover, MA.

The NH State Police were assisted at the scene by the North Hampton Fire Department, the NH Department of Transportation, and National Wrecker Service.

Anyone with information pertaining to this incident is asked to contact Trooper Matheus Candido, NH State Police-Troop A at 603) 223-8490, or via email at
