Serious Motor Vehicle Crash, Route 4, Northwood

On Thursday, August 30, 2018 at approximately 5:47 p.m., Northwood Police and Fire was notified of a serious motor vehicle crash on Route 4 in their town. Upon their arrival, they observed that the crash involved two vehicles. One was parked in the westbound breakdown lane and the second one had crashed, head-on into a tree and caught fire. The operator of the vehicle that caught fire sustained life-threatening injuries and had to be pulled from the vehicle. The operator and passenger in the second vehicle were not injured. The vehicle pulled off to the side of the road was identified as a 2010 Acura Sedan, driven by Holly Ann Sawyer Neenan, age 24, from Seabrook, NH. The vehicle that struck the tree was identified as a 2017 Jeep Renegade, driven by Rick Taylor, age 55, of Pittsfield, NH. Mr. Taylor sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to Concord Hospital. Due to the seriousness of the crash Northwood Police requested that The State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction, (C.A.R.) Unit handle the investigation.

Based upon the initial on-scene investigation, it appears that the Acura Sedan was pulled over in the westbound breakdown lane and then began to make a U-turn as the Jeep Renegade was passing by, traveling westbound. The Acura struck the Jeep on the rear passenger side door, causing the Jeep to swerve off the roadway to the right and crash, head-on, into a tree.

The Collision Analysis and Reconstruction, (C.A.R.) Unit was assisted on scene by members of the State Police – Troop A Barracks as well as Northwood Police and Northwood Fire/EMS. Due to the collision, Route 4 was closed in both directions in the area of the crash for approximately 4 hours.

At this time it does not appear that speed or alcohol were factors, however all aspects remain under investigation. Anyone that may have further information related to this collision, or who witnessed this collsion are encouraged to contact Trooper Christopher Martineau by email at christopher.martineau@dos.nh.gov or by calling 603-223-8626.
