Seabrook Beach Drowning/Water Rescue

On August 19, 2018 at 12:28 PM, New Hampshire State Police - Troop A dispatch received a call regarding multiple swimmers in distress in the water off of Seabrook Beach in Seabrook, NH. New Hampshire State Police - Marine Patrol, the United States Coast Guard, Seabrook Police and Fire Departments, and the Hampton Fire Department responded. A Good Samaritan was able to help the six swimmers to shore. Four of the six were not injured although two swimmers were unconscious when they were helped to shore and CPR was started.

One of the victims, a 47-year old female from Methuen, MA was transported to Portsmouth Regional Hospital with life threatening injuries. The second victim, a 49-year old male also from Methuen, MA, was brought to Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport, MA, where he was pronounced deceased.

At this time it appears that choppy water conditions may have been a factor in this incident, however all aspects remain under investigation. The victims' names are being withheld pending notification of next of kin. Additional information will be released via updated press releases. On August 19, 2018 at 12:28 PM, New Hampshire State Police - Troop A dispatch received a call regarding multiple swimmers in distress in the water off of Seabrook Beach in Seabrook, NH. New Hampshire State Police - Marine Patrol, the United States Coast Guard, Seabrook Police and Fire Departments, and the Hampton Fire Department responded. A Seabrook police officer, a Hampton lifeguard and several Good Samaritans were able to help the six swimmers to shore. Four of the six were not injured but two swimmers were unconscious when they were brought to shore and CPR was started.

One of the victims, a 47-year old female, identified as Laura Cote from Methuen, MA was transported to Portsmouth Regional Hospital where she was pronounced deceased early Monday morning. The second victim and Mrs. Cote's husband was identified as Michael Cote, age 49, also from Methuen, MA. He was brought to Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport, MA where he was pronounced deceased on Sunday afternoon. The victims were visiting friends at Seabrook Beach.

At this time it appears that water conditions may have been a factor in this incident, however all aspects still remain under investigation.
