Serious Motor Vehicle Crash, Interstate 95, Greenland

On Friday, August 10, 2018 at approximately 0920 hours, New Hampshire State Police – Troop A responded to the scene of a single motor vehicle crash on Interstate 95 southbound in the Town of Greenland, NH involving a passenger van carrying numerous children. It was reported that there were multiple injuries. Upon their arrival, Troop A requested the assistance of State Police-Troop G and the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction (C.A.R.) Unit due to the severity of the injuries and the amount of passengers involved. Upon their arrival it was determined that the vehicle involved was a 2010 GMC Savana transport van which was being operated by John E. Guy, age 21, of Kittery, ME when the vehicle veered off the roadway, striking a large tree, head-on. Also in the vehicle was one adult counselor as well as 11 juveniles. All 13 occupants were transported from the scene to both Exeter Hospital and Portsmouth Regional Hospital and all family members notified. There was a report of a life-threatening injury sustained by one of the juveniles at Exeter Hospital and they were transported shortly after to Boston Children's Hospital.

Due to the amount of injured occupants, the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction (C.A.R.) Unit was assisted on scene by members of State Police Troop A, NH State Police Troop G, NH DOT as well as Fire/EMS from the towns of Portsmouth, Greenland, Rye, North Hampton, Hampton, Stratham, Exeter and East Kingston. They also received a great deal of assistance from Portsmouth Regional Hospital and Exeter Hospital.

At this time it does not appear that speed was a factor in this crash, however all aspects remain under investigation. Anyone that may have further information related to this collision, or who witnessed this collsion are encouraged to contact Trooper Andrew Wilensky by phone at 603-223-8715 or by email at andrew.wilensky@dos.nh.gov.
