Boating Accident – Foot Injury , Lake Winnipesaukee, Meredith

On Sunday, August 5, 2018 at approximately 1:00 PM, New Hampshire State Police – Marine Patrol received a report of a child who was injured after striking her foot on a boat's propeller in Meredith Bay in the town of Meredith on Lake Winnipesaukee.

Initial investigation revealed that a 28-foot Four Winns inboard-outboard boat being operated by Scott Garrity, age 49, of North Reading, MA, was towing three children on a tube in Meredith Bay. The kids fell off of the tube and the operator put the boat into neutral as they attempted to board the vessel. One of the children, a ten-year old female, kicked as she approached the boat, striking her right foot on the boat's propeller causing a large laceration to her foot. She was put onto the vessel and taken to Akwa Marina in Laconia, where first responders evaluated her and transported her to Lakes Region General Hospital where she is being treated.

Assisting agencies included Laconia Police Department and Fire Department.

This incident is currently under investigation. If anyone witnessed it, they are requested to contact New Hampshire State Police – Marine Patrol Sergeant Seth Alie at 603-227-2117 or via email at seth.alie@dos.nh.gov.
