Traffic Accident, Interstate 93 North, Manchester

photo showing damaged chevrolet pickup truck

On Monday, June 18, 2018, at approximately 8:49 AM, Gena Handlowich, 29 years old from Londonderry, was driving a black 2006 Chevrolet Pickup Truck along Interstate 93 North in Manchester, New Hampshire when she was involved in a crash. Handlowich was changing lanes when she lost control of her pickup truck, crashed into the guardrail and then veered into the path of an oncoming Tractor Trailer Unit.

Richard Beaty, 64 years old from Allenstown was driving a 1998 Freightliner Tractor Trailer Truck behind Handlowich. Upon seeing Handlowich lose control and crash Beaty took evasive action but was unable to avoid crashing into Handlowich.

As a result of the crash Handlowich suffered injuries to her arm and she had to be extricated from her truck by emergency personnel. She was transported to the Elliot Hospital in Manchester to be treated for her injuries. Beaty was uninjured in the crash.

Handlowich's truck sustained extensive damage and was towed from the scene. Beaty's Tractor Trailer Truck sustained disabling damage and had to be towed from the scene as well.

The Interstate in this area was completely blocked for a brief time by the tractor trailer truck which had jack-knifed. This area of the Interstate is currently under construction and with guardrail on the left and jersey barriers on the right. Due to the quick response of the Coleman Construction Crew nearby they were able to remove several sections of the jersey barrier in order to allow one lane of travel flow through the area. The Interstate was then restricted to one lane for approximately 1½ hours while emergency personnel worked to extricate Handlowich and then remove the vehicles from the scene.

Members of New Hampshire State Police - Troop B, Troop G, Manchester Fire and Rescue personnel as well as members of the Coleman Construction Crew assisted on scene.

Anyone who may have information in regards to this incident is encouraged to contact Trooper Erick Deya at the State Police - Troop B Barracks in Bedford - 603-223-4381.
