Motor Vehicle Fatality, Kent Farm Road, Hampstead

On Saturday, June 09, 2018 at approximately 3:55 p.m., the Hampstead Police Department was notified of a motor vehicle collision on Kent Farm Road in the area of 272 Kent Farm Road in Hampstead. They were informed that the crash involved a pick-up truck and a motorcycle and that the operator of the motorcycle sustained life threatening injuries. Hampstead Police Department responded to the scene and due to the seriousness of the crash they requested that the New Hampshire State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction, (C.A.R.) handle the investigation. Upon their arrival, Hampstead Police Department along with Fire and Rescue personnel found a Harley-Davidson Motorcycle lying in the southbound travel lane on a sharp curve and the male operator was lying in the northbound lane. A Ford F150 was found off the southbound shoulder of the road. The operator of the motorcycle was identified as Eric Leighton, age 53, of Sandown, New Hampshire who had sustained life-threatening injuries in the collision and was transported to Parkland Medical Center in Derry, NH where he succumbed to his injuries a couple hours later. The operator of the pick-up truck was identified as Leo Beauchamp, age 59, of Sandown, New Hampshire who sustained minor injuries and was transported to Parkland Medical Center in Derry, NH.

Based upon the initial on-scene investigation, it appears that the Harley-Davidson was traveling Northbound on Kent Farm Road when it lost control coming into a sharp right hand curve and put the motorcycle down on its side as it slid across the double yellow line, straight into the path of the pick-up truck, which was traveling southbound.

The Collision Analysis and Reconstruction, (C.A.R.) Unit was assisted on scene by members of the Hampstead Police Department, Hampstead Fire and Rescue and Trinity Ambulance. Due to the collision, Kent Farm Road in this area was closed for approximately 4½ hours.

At this time it does not appear that speed was a factor in this crash, however all aspects remain under investigation. Anyone that may have further information related to this collision, or who witnessed this collsion are encouraged to contact Trooper First Class Bryan Plamondon by email at
