Motor Vehicle Fatality, Merrimack

On January 27, 2018 at approximately 4:50 PM, the NH State Police received a report of a rollover motor vehicle accident on the Everett Turnpike southbound in the area of mile marker 15. Troopers from the Troop B barracks reponded to the scene along with the Merrimack Police and Fire Departments. Once on scene, Troopers confirmed that two vehicles were involved in the crash.

Troopers observed a 2006 Toyota Corolla bearing a New Hampshire Registration up against the guardrail in the center median. The Corolla was operator by Heather Vitale, Tilton, New Hampshire, 31 Years Old, and 2002 Volkswagon Passat bearing a New Hampshire Regisgtration on its roof off the right side of the roadway. The Passat was operated by Gregory Tracy, Goffstown, New Hampshire, 63 Years Old.

Preliminary investigations revealed the Passat was traveling southbound and sideswiped the corrolla, causing it to skid across the right lane and into the breakdown lane before hitting the dirt embankment and sliding onto its roof. Tracy was trapped inside the vehicle.

Merrimack Fire and EMS attempted to render aid to Tracy, but advised Troopers at the scene that he had sucummed to the injuries received in the collsion.

Vitale and her small child were transported to the Elliot Hospital as a percautionary measure.

The Turnpike was shutdown for approximately 45 mins while Merrimack Fire and EMS worked to remove Tracy from the vehicle .
