On Thursday, November 16, 2017 at approximately 9:08A.M., a fatal motor vehicle crash occurred on Interstate 93 southbound in the town of Holderness near mile marker 79.4. The crash involved a single motor vehicle that rolled over in the median. Troopers from the NH State Police responded to the scene, and were assisted by the Holderness Police Department, and Fire and Rescue units from the towns of Plymouth, Holderness and Ashland.

The vehicle, a 2007 Ford F-150, was driven by John Hughes, age 77, of Ashland. Hughes was not wearing his seatbelt and received life-threatening injuries during the crash. He was transported to Speare Memorial hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The passenger, Kendall Hughes, age 49, also of Ashland, was transported to the hospital for minor injuries. He was treated and released.

Preliminary investigation indicates the vehicle was travelling south on I-93 during inclement weather. The vehicle was travelling in the right hand lane and the driver was attempting to slow down for a vehicle in front of it that was also slowing down. The driver lost control of the vehicle and the vehicle went into the median between the north and south bound lanes where it rolled over.

The crash is still under investigation. Anyone having further information on the crash is asked to call Trooper Amanda Johnson of Troop F at 603-846-3333.
