On Tuesday, November 14, 2017, at approximately 8:51 a.m., Trooper Harrison Walters/NH State Police-Troop A, was monitoring traffic on Interstate 95 southbound in the Town of North Hampton, NH. He observed a vehicle, later determined to be a 2008 Chrysler 300, traveling at a speed of 92 mph in a posted 65 mph zone. Trooper Walters pursued this vehicle and attempted to initiate a motor vehicle stop. The driver of this vehicle refused to stop and was observed throwing items out of his window as Trooper Walters continued attempts to stop him (Troopers were not able to recover these items).

The driver of this vehicle, identified as Justin Demaio, age 22, of Stow, ME, continued to travel south on Interstate 95, eventually turning into the parking lot of the State Liquor Store. Troopers continued to follow Demaio as he drove to the rear parking lot of the liquor store and reversed his direction. He then drove directly at a State Police cruiser being driven by Trooper Alex Davis. Trooper Davis was able to avoid colliding with Demaio's vehicle. Demaio lost control of his vehicle as he attempted to exit the parking lot. His vehicle went off the roadway and struck a large rock, causing disabling damage. He was subsequently taken into custody without incident.

Demaio will be charged with reckless conduct (felony), possession of a controlled drug with intent to distribute, transportation of drugs, disobeying a police officer, speeding, destruction of evidence, and operating after suspension. Additionally, Demaio had an active warrant for his arrest for failure to appear out of the 7th Circuit Court-Rochester District. He will be arraigned in the Rockingham County Superior Court on November 15, 2017 (Time-TBD).

This incident remains under investigation by Trooper Harrison Walters. Anyone with information pertaining to this incident is asked to call Trooper Walters/NH State Police/Troop A at 603-223-8490.
