Women in Policing Leadership Conference

More than 130 women troopers from all six New England State Police agencies, including the New Hampshire State Police, are scheduled to attend the second annual NESPAC Women’s Leadership Conference in Newport, RI, on Thursday and Friday (November 2 and 3).

The two-day training conference promotes leadership and professionalism among women who serve in law enforcement, with a special focus on education, training, mentoring and support.

The event is part of the New England State Police Administrators Compact, which allows all of the New England State Police Agencies to share resources and training throughout the region.

This year’s Women’s Leadership Conference includes presentations covering a range of topics including: improving personal and professional communication skills; identifying character strengths in yourself and your employees; exploring the qualities needed to become a leader within your organization; and financial management on a personal and professional level.

There also will be a panel discussion featuring some of the nation’s leading women law enforcement officials: Colonel Kriste Kibbey Etue, Superintendent of the Michigan State Police; Director Sonia Garcia, Division Director, Education, Training and Research Division of the Texas Department of Public Safety and formerly a Major in the Criminal Investigations Division of the Texas Highway Patrol; and Commissioner Gayle Cameron, Massachusetts Gaming Commissioner, who also is a retired Deputy Superintendent for the New Jersey State Police.

Colonel Ann C. Assumpico, Superintendent of the Rhode Island State Police and Director of the Department of Public Safety, will provide opening remarks to begin the conference at 8:30 a.m. Thursday. Top command staff members from each of the New England State Police Agencies are expected to attend.

The Newport Marriott is located at 25 America’s Cup Avenue, Newport, RI.
