Motor Vehicle Collision, Route 124, Marlborough

photo of accident scene

On October 9, 2017, at approximately 1:10 PM, the New Hampshire State Police responded to a three vehicle collision involving a commercial propane truck on Route 124 in Marlborough in the area of the Shaker Brook.

The initial investigation revealed that a 2017 Hyundai Elantra was traveling westbound on Route 124 operated by Lanie O'Brien, Age 49, Swanzey, NH when it was struck from behind by a 1998 Dodge pickup truck being operated by Peter B. Thomas, Age: 86, Dublin, NH.

The collision caused the Hyundai to cross into the eastbound lane of Route 124 and collide with a Eastern Propane Gas Inc. 2010 Kenworth tanker being operated by: Christopher S. Tucker, Age 45, Greenville, NH.

The collision caused the tanker to roll over onto its side. The tanker, which was partially full, sustained a small leak, but was able to be contained and secured in place. At this time, Route 124 remains closed while measures are being taken to safely offload the propane from the overturned tanker to another tanker. A nearby residence had to be evacuated due to the proximity to the collision.

Obrien sustained serious injuries as a result of the collision and was transported by Diluzio Ambulance Service to Cheshire Medical Center in Keene. Thomas and Tucker were uninjured.

Alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors in the collision. At this time, the cause of the collision remains under investigation by members of Troop C, Troop G and the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction (CAR) Unit.

New Hampshire State Police was assisted on scene by the Dublin and Harrisville Police Departments and Marlborough Fire Department and several other local fire departments.

Anyone with information about this collision is asked to contact Trooper Richard Camacho at (603) 223-8562.
