Sobriety Checkpoint, Bristol

On the evening of September 2nd, 2017 and into September 3rd, 2017, from the hours of 10:00 PM through 2:00 AM, the NH State Police, in conjunction with the Bristol Police Department, conducted a sobriety checkpoint on Rt. 104 in Bristol in the area of Ayers Island Road. This checkpoint was conducted pursuant to an order made by Justice Peter H. Bornstein of the Grafton County Superior Court on August 24th, 2017. The order was issued in response to an application by the New Hampshire State Police to perform the checkpoint as an efficient means to deter and apprehend impaired motorists.

A total of 234 vehicles were screened. 7 operators submitted to further field sobriety testing as a result of the screening process and the following arrests were made for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol or Drugs:

  • Kyle McCalvey Age: 29 Plymouth, NH
  • Brandon Feid Age: 48 Plainfield, NH

The following arrest was made for drug related offenses:

  • Shane Wheeler Age: 32 Hill, NH

Additionally, the following arrest was made for Operating After Suspension:

  • Jared Ellis Age: 38 Bristol, NH

All arrests were made without incident and the subjects were released on bail to appear in 2nd Circuit-District Division-Plymouth Court in the coming months.

The New Hampshire State Police along with the Bristol Police Department is committed to taking an aggressive stance in utilizing Sobriety Checkpoints as a tool to deter and arrest intoxicated drivers. New Hampshire has some of the most aggressive laws in the country to fight the intoxicated driver and we are dedicated to using those tools to ensure safe travel throughout the state.
