On Monday, July 17, 2017, at approximately 10:51 a.m., troopers from the New Hampshire State Police Troop-A barracks responded to Route 16 in Dover for a report of a single motor vehicle crash with ejection. It was initially reported that as a result of the crash, a person was lying in the roadway on the southbound side of Route 16, just north of exit 9. The vehicle involved was described as a 2000 Dodge Ram pick-up truck. The operator was identified as Martin Gavin, age 63 of Stoneham, MA. Mr. Gavin was transported to Wentworth-Douglas Hospital with serious injuries and he was later flown to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Initial on-scene investigation revealed that while driving southbound on Route 16 in the area of exit 9, Mr. Gavin left the travel portion of the roadway to the right, traveled down the embankment, and then entered back onto the roadway where the vehicle flipped onto its side. As the vehicle rolled over, Mr. Gavin was ejected. The cause of this crash remains under investigation. All travel lanes on the southbound and northbound sides of the roadway were shut down, and traffic was reduced to using only the breakdown lanes in both directions until the scene could be cleared.

The New Hampshire State Police received assistance at the scene from members of the New Hampshire Department of Transportation.

Anyone with information pertaining to this crash is asked to contact Trooper Brian Ross, New Hampshire State Police, Troop-A Barracks at (603)223-8490.
