Water Skier Struck by Boat and Killed on Newfound Lake, Bridgewater

On July 17, 2017 at approximately 8:26 am, Marine Patrol was notified of a serious boating accident on Newfound Lake in the Town of Hebron where a 12 year girl was being treated after being struck by a powerboat.

Zoe Anderson, age 12, of Highland Ranch Colorado was learning to slalom ski behind a 20' Cobalt powerboat being operated by her father, Sherwood P. Anderson (same town). They were on the lake in the immediate area of Cilley's Point in Hebron.

After falling, Mr. Anderson was in the process of returning to Zoe's location when his attention was momentarily distracted as his hat was blown from his head. Mr. Anderson quickly placed the boat in neutral as the boat travelled over the top of the Zoe causing serious injuries to her torso. The boat was travelling at a slow speed during these events.

Zoe was assisted from the water and immediately transported to shore by her family. Also aboard the boat were her mother Tonya Anderson and 14 year old sister. CPR was initiated but efforts to revive her were not successful.

Assisting Agencies included the Bridgewater Police Dept., Bridgewater Fire/Rescue, and Bristol Fire Rescue.

This incident remains under investigation. Anyone who may have further information related to this accident or who may have witnessed this crash is encouraged to contact Sergeant Joshua Dirth at 603-293-2037 or by email at joshua.dirth@dos.nh.gov.
