Public Discharge of Firearm, Interstate 93 northbound Rest Area, Hooksett

A man shot and killed a dog at the Hooksett Rest Area on I-93 to stop it as it attacked his own dog in the parking lot near the entrance of the NH General Store, June 28, at approximately 1:10 p.m.

The incident began when a large canine managed to break free from its owners through an open window of their parked car upon seeing a much smaller dog pass by on foot with its owners.

Witnesses said the man killed the attacking dog by firing a single shot at it at close range after multiple attempts to free his much smaller dog from its jaws were unsuccesful. His dog sustained injuries from the attack that did not appear to be life threatening and was taken to a Concord area veterinarian for treatment.

The incident is still under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call TR. Mark Barrett at 603-271-3636.
