Stolen Vehicles/Motor Vehicle Crash, Stewartstown

On June 18th at approximately 9:41 pm the NH State Police Troop F received multiple reports of a motor vehicle collision located on Route 3 in the town of Stewartstown. When the State Police arrived on scene they found an abandoned vehicle that had been rolled over, and the operator of which had fled the scene on foot. The road had to be temporarily shut down to remove the vehicle. During the investigation, State Police learned that the vehicle had been stolen from Clarksville, NH.

The Colebrook Police Department and US Border Patrol assisted in trying to locate the individual who left the scene on foot. While searching for the driver, police received the report of another stolen pickup truck from Stratford. The owner of the stolen truck also reported that another vehicle had been left nearby, which was also determined to have been stolen.

The pickup truck stolen from Stratford was later located stuck in a ditch off Bog Road in Stratford. A State Police K-9 was used to search for the suspect, however, during that search another vehicle was reported stolen out of Northumberland. The vehicle stolen from Northumberland was later located crashed a short distance over the border in Maine, where two additional vehicles had also been reported stolen.

State Police believe a juvenile from Campton, NH, is behind the string of thefts and was last seen in Maine. The Campton Police are also investigating two stolen vehicles from their town, and they are working with the State Police to help locate the juvenile.

Police have determined that 11 vehicles had been stolen from NH, VT and ME.

No further information is being released at this time.
