Sobriety Checkpoint-June 17, 2017

On the evening of Saturday, June 17, 2017 and into Sunday, June 18, 2017, from the hours of 10:00 PM through 2:00 AM, the New Hampshire State Police in conjunction with the New Hampton Police Department conducted a sobriety checkpoint on Rt. 104 in New Hampton in the area of the Rt. 104 Diner. This checkpoint was conducted pursuant to an order which was made by Justice James O’Neill III of the Belknap County Superior Court on June 7, 2017. The order was issued in response to an application by the New Hampshire State Police to perform the checkpoint as an efficient means to deter and apprehend impaired motorists.

A total of 278 vehicles were stopped and screened. 22 drivers submitted to voluntary field sobriety testing resulting in the following arrests made for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol or Drugs;

  • Michael Larocque, age 53, Derry, NH
  • Bennett Ricketson, age 33, Milton, NY
  • Cheryl Gonzalo, age 49, Franklin, NH

All arrests were made without incident and all subjects were released on bail and required to appear in the 4th Circuit-District Division-Laconia Court on June 29, 2017.  In addition there were two citations issued for Operating without a Valid License.

The New Hampshire State Police is committed to taking an aggressive stance in utilizing Sobriety Checkpoints as a tool to deter and arrest intoxicated drivers. New Hampshire has some of the most aggressive laws in the country to fight the intoxicated driver and we are dedicated to using those tools to ensure safe travel throughout the state.
