Lake Monomonac Boating Accident Update June 16, 2017, 10:15 am

On Sunday, June 11, 2017 at approximately 5:30 pm, Marine Patrol was notified of a serious boating accident on Lake Monomonac in Rindge.

Investigators learned that Meghan Rodriguez, 29, of Fitchburg MA was a passenger on a 2016 Kawasaki personal watercraft operated by Joseph Ocasio of Winchendon MA. While returning to shore after tubing, all three passengers were riding on the Jet Ski travelling on plane when Ms. Rodriguez fell from the back of the machine and became entangled in the tube’s towline. Ms. Rodriguez was found unconscious, face up, floating in her life jacket.

Ocasio and another passenger aboard the craft returned to render assistance to Rodriguez and with the assistance of a passing boat transported her to shore. CPR was being administered when they were met by members of the Rindge Fire/Rescue. Rodriguez was transported to Peterborough Hospital and later flown to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical where she was admitted to the intensive care unit.

On the evening of June 15, 2017, Ms. Rodriguez succumbed to her injuries. An autopsy has been scheduled for later today.

The incident remains under investigation by the Marine Patrol Bureau.
