On Tuesday, 1 June 2017 at approximately 9:58AM, the New Hampshire State Police Troop F received the report of a motor vehicle collision located on Route 2 in Jefferson, NH involving a motor vehicle and a tractor trailer. The initial report indicated entrapment with serious personal injury.
State Police responded along with the Jefferson and Twin Mountain Fire Departments, the Lancaster Ambulance and the Coos County Sheriff's Office.
The investigation revealed that a 2013 Toyota Corolla, being operated by Elizabeth Davis, 21 years old, of Shelburne, NH, had been traveling west on Route 2 when it crossed over the center line as it negotiated a gradual curve. A 1999 Kenworth tractor trailer, being operated by Christopher Nelson, 46 years old, of Jefferson, had been traveling east on Route 2.
The Toyota continued on the wrong side of the roadway and a head-on collision occurred in the eastbound lane. Elizabeth Davis died on scene as a result of extensive injuries.
The circumstances as to why the vehicle crossed the center line are still being investigated.
NH DOT assisted with traffic control while Route 2 was reduced to one lane for 5.5 hours to allow for the removal of vehicles and roadway cleanup.
