Motor Vehicle Accident, Interstate 293, Manchester, NH

On Wednesday, April 25, 2017, at approximately 2100 hours, Troopers from New Hampshire State Police Troop B, and Manchester Fire/ EMS responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a tractor trailer and a pickup truck on the Interstate 293 southbound ramp to Interstate 93 south in Manchester, NH.

Initial reports indicated that tractor trailer was traveling on Interstate 93 southbound in Manchester when the driver lost control. The tractor trailer crossed over the median separating Interstates 93 & 293 and entered the Interstate 293 southbound ramp just prior to the merger of both highway systems. The tractor trailer then struck a pickup truck traveling on the Interstate 293 ramp causing both vehicles to exit the western side of the roadway. The tractor trailer unit jackknifed as a result of the collision.

The operator of the pickup was identified as Derrick Vossbrinnk, Age 30, from Merrimack, NH.

Vossbrink was trapped in the passenger compartment of his vehicle for over 30 minutes while members of the Manchester Fire Department attempted to free him. He was then transported to the Elliott Hospital where he was treated for serious yet non-life threatening injuries.

No injuries were sustained by the operator of the tractor trailer who was identified as Angelo Miguel, Age 29, from Providence, RI.

Preliminary investigation indicates that neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be contributing factors in the collision. As a result of the collision and subsequent investigation, the right travel lane of the Interstate 293 southbound ramp was closed for approximately three hours. Troopers from Troop B were assisted at the scene by the State Police Commercial Vehicle Unit (Troop G), the Manchester Fire Department and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation.

This incident remains under investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact TFC. Christopher Cummings at the State Police Troop B Barracks at 603-223-8674.
