Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision, Route 16, Milton

On Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at approximately 4:14AM, troopers assigned to the New Hampshire State Police, Troop-A Barracks, responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash on Route 16 between exits 17 and 18 in the town of Milton. Upon arrival, it was determined that the crash involved two vehicles. The first was a 2003 GMC Yukon being operated by Michael Jones, Age 52, of Barrington, New Hampshire and the second being a Nissan Titan being operated by Leland Robbins, age 37, of Sanbornville, New Hampshire.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the GMC Yukon was traveling northbound and the Nissan Titan was traveling southbound. For an unknown reason, the GMC Yukon drifted left of center of the roadway, crossed the center line and collided with the Nissan Titan. As a result of this crash, Jones sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Robbins sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries and was transported to the Portsmouth Hospital.

Due to the size and significance of the accident scene, Route 16 was required to be closed in both directions for a period of 3½ hours.

Assisting troopers at the scene were members of the Milton Police Department, Milton Fire Department, State of New Hampshire Department of Transportation and the State of New Hampshire Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Anyone with information pertaining to this incident is asked to contact Trooper Nathan Sleight, of the New Hampshire State Police, Troop-A Barracks, at (603)223-8490 or at nathan.sleight@dos.nh.gov.
