Cruiser Crash, Interstate 89, Hopkinton

On Jan. 27, at approximately 8:31 a.m., a New Hampshire State Police cruiser parked in the breakdown lane on I-89 South in Hopkinton was struck by a passing vehicle.

A 2003 Saab 93 convertible, driven by George Anthony Day-Reiss, 21, of Salisbury, Connecticut, sideswiped the cruiser while the trooper was making a car stop.

The trooper, assigned to the Troop D barracks in Concord, was standing outside of the cruiser at the time of the crash and escaped injury.

Both vehicles sustained disabling damage and were towed from the scene.

Day-Reiss, who was uninjured, admitted to driving between 75 and 80 miles per hour in the posted 65 zone. He did not explain what caused him to strike the cruiser, which was parked to the right of the fog line in a straightaway with its emergency lights on.

A search warrant is being sought to obtain Day-Reiss' cell phone records as part of this investigation. Anyone with information related to this incident is encouraged to call TFC Ardini at (603) 271-3636.
