Vehicle Pursuit Terminating in a Crash, Eaton

On Saturday, January 21, 2017, at approximately 7:58 PM, Trooper Thomas Bednar attempted to stop a vehicle on Route 153 in Freedom, NH. This particular vehicle had previously been reported as operating in a manner that was erratic and a threat to public safety. The vehicle, which was being driven by Jonathan Lord of Tamworth, NH, failed to stop for Trooper Bednar and increased its speed, thus initiating a pursuit northbound on Route 153.

Mr. Lord continued his attempt to elude Trooper Bednar and Corporal James Hayford, of the Madison Police Department, by operating at excessive speeds and in an erratic manner while traveling north on Route 153. Near the intersection of Eaton Road and Glines Hill Road, in Eaton, NH, Mr. Lord crashed his vehicle into a house and was unable to drive his vehicle any further. Mr. Lord suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash and was released into State Police custody after being cleared by The North Conway Ambulance Service. Mr. Lord was taken into custody at this time and will be facing the following charges at a minimum as a result of this incident:

  • Driving While Intoxicated
  • Operating After Suspension (License and Registrations)
  • Disobeying an Officer
  • Criminal Mischief
  • Breach of Bail

Also assisting on scene were Center Conway Fire and Rescue, the Carroll County Sheriff's Department and the Freedom Police Department.
