Motor Vehicle Accident and Vehicle Fire, Circumferential Highway, Nashua

On Saturday, October 8th, 2016, at approximately 10:17 PM, Trooper M. Locke of the New Hampshire State Police Troop B barracks in Bedford, NH, responded to a motor vehicle crash fully engulfed in flames east bound on the Circumferential Highway in Nashua, NH. Nashua Fire, EMS, and the State Fire Marshal also responded to assist on scene.

While on scene Trooper M. Locke observed a Nissan Maxima fully engulfed in flames off the roadway. The Nissan was at rest next to the bottom of the Merrimack River bridge. Preliminary investigation indicates that the Nissan was traveling eastbound on the Circumferential Highway at a high rate of speed. The operator attempted to utilize the off ramp towards the D.W. Highway when control was lost. The Nissan continued straight across the grass median and was launched over the east bound on ramp and guard rail towards the Merrimack River. The Nissan fell many feet before it finally came to rest next to the railroad tracks at the bottom of the Merrimack River bridge. The vehicle immediately became fully engulfed in flames. An unknown driver and passenger sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash.

Trooper First Class B. Plamondon a member of the New Hampshire State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction, (C.A.R.) Unit responded to the scene to assist with the investigation. Due to the crash, the eastbound off ramp and on ramp were closed for approximately 5.5 hours while the scene was investigated and debris cleaned up. Traffic was able to utilize the west bound ramps from the D.W. Highway and Circumferential Highway to arrive at their destination.

At this time it appears that speed may have been a factor in this crash, however all aspects remain under investigation. Anyone that may have further information related to this crash, or who witnessed this crash are encouraged to contact Trooper Melanie Locke at 603-223-4381.
