Traffic Accident - Everett Turnpike Nashua

On Thursday, October 6, 2016 at approximately 3:45 PM, Trooper Jeffrey Ardini of the New Hampshire State Police, Troop D Barracks, was working a construction detail at the Exit 1 on-ramp to the Everett Turnpike Southbound in the city of Nashua. Trooper Ardini was directing traffic in full uniform, wearing a yellow traffic vest, standing outside his fully marked State Police Cruiser with emergency lights activated when he attempted to stop a black 2013 Volkswagen Beetle, operated by 57 year old John Hunt of Chelmsford, Massachusetts. Hunt did not stop for the Trooper but rather accelerated up the ramp causing Trooper Ardini to jump out of the way. As Hunt passed, his vehicle brushed up against Trooper Ardini impacting the equipment on his duty belt. As a result the Volkswagens rear fender was damaged. Trooper Ardini was not injured and was able to return to his cruiser and initiated a stop of the Volkswagen just south of the on-ramp.

An investigation was conducted and it was determined that Hunt had disabilities that effected his capacity to operate a motor vehicle safely. Hunt was cited for Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Disobeying a Police Officer Directing Traffic, and a request for a medical review of his driving privileges was forwarded to the Director of Motor vehicles.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact Trooper Quigley at 603-672-3333.
