Sobriety Checkpoint, Newport

During the hours of 9:00 p.m. Saturday, September 3, 2016, through 3:00 a.m. Sunday, September 04, 2016 New Hampshire State Troopers from Troop C in Keene and officers of the Newport Police Department conducted a sobriety checkpoint on Route 11/103 in the town of Newport.

The checkpoint was authorized by an order of the Sullivan County Superior Court and conducted under guidelines promulgated by the New Hampshire Attorney General's Office.

A total of 172 vehicles and operators were screened and 3 arrests were made.

The New Hampshire State Police, Colonel Robert Quinn and the Newport Police Chief James Burroughs as well as the officers of their departments consider the detection and apprehension of impaired drivers to be a top priority. They will continue to collaborate and utilize sobriety checkpoints and other means to deter, detect and remove impaired drivers from New Hampshire's roadways.
