Motor Vehicle Traffic Crash – Route 93 southbound, Canterbury

On August 26, 2016 troopers, along with the Penacook Rescue and the Canterbury Fire Department, were dispatched to a single vehicle crash on Route 93 southbound in Canterbury. Upon arrival emergency personnel discovered that a Ford pickup truck had left the roadway, side swiped 27o feet of guardrail, and hit a tree in the center median. The truck had been operated by Manuel Dejesus, age 34, Northwood, New Hampshire.

There were 2 passengers in the truck, Dejesus, along with one of the passengers suffered minor injuries. A third passenger was trapped in the truck and had to be extricated by fire and rescue workers. He was transported to the Concord Hospital with multiple injuries.

While emergency responders were working to free Dejesus a second crash occurred just north of the first one. A vehicle driven by David Maciel, age 75, Gilmanton, New Hampshire had slowed for the emergency vehicles in the roadway. A second vehicle, driven by Jacob MacDonald, age 21, Plymouth, Massachusetts struck the rear of Maciel's vehicle. The impact caused extensive damage to Maciel's vehicle. Maciel suffered minor injuries.

Troopers determined that MacDonald was speeding, inattentive, and following too closely. He was issued a summons for following too closely.

The accident that involved Dejesus remains under investigation. Anyone with information may contact Trooper Mark Magoon at 603-271-3636
