On Tuesday, August 23, 2016, at approximately 1929 hours, Troopers assigned to the New Hampshire State Police Troop A barracks responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident on Route 16 in the vicinity of mile marker 11 in Dover.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Unit #1, a 2014 BMW 328XI being operated by Abbygayl George, age 40 of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, was traveling north on Route 16. For reasons that remain under investigation, Unit #1 drove into Unit #2 which was also traveling northbound. Unit #2, a 2014 Ford Fiesta being driven by Erica Bruce, age 35 of Farmington, New Hampshire was pushed into the guardrail on the west side of the roadway. Unit #1 continued north after striking Unit #2, and subsequently crashed through the guardrail, coming to final rest on the southbound side of Route 16. As a result of the crash with the guardrail, approximately thirty feet of rail was pushed across the southbound lanes of Route 16 causing the roadway to be shut down for approximately one hour. Southbound traffic was eventually diverted around the crash scene by way of Exit 9. As a result of the crash, the high speed lane of Route 16 northbound was also shut down for approximately one hour. Traffic continued to flow north via the travel lane.

Ms. George and Ms. Bruce were transported to the Wentworth Douglas Hospital, where Ms. Bruce was treated for minor injuries.

Abbygayl George was charged with DWI. She was released on Personal Recognizance bail and she was issued a notice to appear in the 7th Circuit Court-District Division Dover on September 13, 2016 at 1230 hours. Ms. George was then transported to the Strafford County House of Corrections where she was placed into Protective Custody.

The New Hampshire State Police were assisted at the scene by members of the Dover Police Department, the Dover Fire Department and the NH Department of Transportation.

Although alcohol appears to be a factor in the causation of this crash, this crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information pertaining to this incident is asked to contact Trooper Nathaniel Goodwin, New Hampshire State Police, Troop-A, at (603)223-8490.
