Man Falls from Canoe and Drowns, Gilman Pond, Alton

On Wednesday August 3rd, 2016 at approximately 10:50am, 911 received a call of a boater in distress. Two adult males were fishing on Gilman Pond when the canoe tipped and one man fell overboard. The second occupant of the canoe was unable to rescue his fishing partner. The man contacted authorities via cell phone and the area was searched with no success. NH Fish and Game dive team responded and is currently searching the 115 acre pond for the missing individual. Both men were in their mid-sixties and their identity is being withheld pending notification of family members. The investigation is being conducted by NH State Police Marine Patrol with assistance from Alton Police Department.

Assisting agencies that responded were Alton Fire and Rescue, Wolfeboro Fire and Rescue, West Ossipee Fire and Rescue, Tuftonboro Fire and Rescue, Ossipee Corner Fire and Rescue Alton Police Department, and NH Fish and Game.

The victim was recovered at 18o5 hours.

The identity the male that drowned is Raymond Tam of Malden MA and his fishing partner who was unharmed identity is Mo Wong of Portsmouth NH.
