Boating Crash – Crystal Lake

photo showing boat damage

At approximately 10:05 PM a serious boating crash occurred on Crystal Lake in the town of Gilmanton, NH.

Boats were dispersing following a fireworks show at Crystal Lake Park. A 17' Key West power boat was travelling northerly being operated at headway speed by Nancy Renall, Age 62 of Gilmanton with four passengers aboard.

Ms. Renall's boat was struck from behind by another power boat, a 19' Crestliner operated by Richard Downing, Age 62 of Manchester, CT. Mr. Downing was carrying four passengers, approaching a planing speed when the crash occurred causing his boat to ramp on top of the Key West inflicting extensive damage to both boats and injury to the occupants.

Two of Mr. Downing's passengers were ejected into the water as a result of the crash; while passengers aboard the Key West were struck by the hull of the Crestliner. Passengers were transported to area hospitals for facial trauma and possible internal injuries.

Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in this crash.

Marine Patrol urges all boaters to exercise an extra degree of caution when operating during the hours of darkness and to remain vigilant to other boater's navigational lights.

Assisting agencies: Gilmanton Fire Rescue and Gilmanton Police.

The crash remains under investigation; anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact NHSP – Marine Patrol at (603) 293-2037.
